Girls Fall At First Hurdle
Wendy Jans, from Belgium, looked good as she made a promising start in her World Open debut, winning the opening frame against tour professional, Simon Bedford in Sheffield.

European Ladies champion, Jans, received a wildcard entry as part of Barry Hearn’s plans to create new interest in snooker.
The first frame was a tight 32-minute affair which Jans took control of early on with a 27 break before needing to clear from blue to black to win.
Despite a best effort of 30, Bedford took control of the match and claimed a 3-1 win.
Earlier, Norway’s Anita Rizutti was another to benefit from a wildcard entry before losing 3-0 to IBSF world champion, Alfie Burden .
Former professionals, Darren Morgan and Craig MacGilvary made successful returns to the competitive arena, both recording wins in round one.
