• All White in Wales

As snow threatened to affect some players journey to the qualifying rounds, the people's favourite, Jimmy White, continued to roll back the years as he went on a four-match winning streak to reach the final stages of the Welsh Open.

White, set up an intriguing match with world championship finalist, Allister Carter when he won the battle of the former greats against Ken Doherty in Prestatyn this week.

It was all white outside as the hills above Prestatyn looked like a European ski resort, and it was all White inside as he trounced the 1998 world champion, five frames to nil.

White's season, so far has been nothing short of incredible.  In recent years he has been written off and ridiculed for his belief that he can still contend at the highest level.

But, he has to be taken more seriously after winning 17 of his 25 matches, making 69 breaks over 50 in the process.

Ask anyone involved in the qualifying rounds and they will tell you that it is a tough school and White's grades are definitely improving.

We are not suggesting that he is likely to ever get his hands on the greatest prize that has unjustly deserted him, but we do think that the 46-year-old may have a shock or two left in him.  The UK has had just about every severe weather warning in the last few weeks so consider this another - The Whirlwind is coming...
