• Daniel's Well Wishes

Welshman Daniel Wells progressed through to the final qualifying round of the 2009 World Championship and was congratulated by the English Institute of Sport.

Twenty-year-old Wells, originally from Neath in South Wales has been based at the World Snooker Academy at the EIS in Sheffield since being awarded the Paul Hunter Scholarship in 2007.

He won an amazing third consecutive final frame decider against Marcus Campbell to keep alive his dream of reaching the final stages at the Crucible in his first season 'on tour'.

Wells told Global-snooker.com, "I have learnt so much this year.  I started off winning my first round match but then played differently against some of the more established pros".

"I have realised that if you play your own game then you can get results".

Amazingly, despite some impressive results through the season, Wells needed to win both his matches against Li Hang (China) and fellow countryman, Ian Preece, just to retain his playing position next season.

After making a decisive 82 break in the final frame against Preece, it was all smiles and the EIS utilised their 'Giant Scoreboard' to pass on congratulations to their man.

"I don't get back home much at the moment, so I guess I am the local boy to some extent", said Wells.
