• Pagett Sets World Record

The unofficial launch of ONEFORSEVEN, an exciting new snooker tournament format, took place last night with Andrew Pagett setting the world record in the process.

Blackwood's Pagett scored a massive 558 points at an average of 79.71 points per frame at Darren Morgan's Red Triangle Club in South Wales.

Despite losing three of his seven frames against Alun Squire, Darren Morgan and Lee Walker, the 26-year-old claimed victory by 67 points from Lewis Hurrel, making breaks of 119 and 100 along the way.

The new concept has been described as snooker's version of a cross between Twenty20 Cricket and Prizefighter Boxing.

Eight players compete against each other simultanelously using four tables.

A player will take on all seven opponents, each for one frame with a ONEFORSEVEN frame lasting a maximum of 21-minutes.  Seven frames lasting 21-minutes creates a total playing time of 147-minutes (Nice!)

The time limit is a key component that enables ONEFORSEVEN to be scheduled with a start and finish in a realistic time period without compromising the essence of the game.

The launch had a party atmosphere to it with the audience encouraged to 'turn their mobile phones on'.

Leading professionals Mark Williams MBE, Matthew Stevens Ryan Day and Ricky Walden attended the launch, and will all feature in the Main Event when it hits the Welsh capital in December.

World number six Day was impressed; "when you play in silence, if someone makes a noise it is off putting but when the noise is constant there is no problem", he said.

Cue maker to the stars, Trevor White said "it's a great concept and should be an attractive proposition for players and audiences".

Newport champion Alun Squire made the early running on the giant leaderboard as he beat the eventual winner in the opening round before fading fast to finish in seventh place.

Former world number eight Morgan took the 'bronze medal' in third and said, "I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next time".
