Day Seventeen / 18
Evicted - Graeme Dott
He comes from a land down under, you better run, you better take cover.
Neil Robertson becomes the first Aussie to lift the world title at 1.00am
Day Sixteen
Evicted - None
The snooker world awakes and begins to come to terms with the shocking news...No, not Dott reaching his third final. The allegations in the News of the World that current world champion and about to be its number one ranked player is involved in allegations of match fixing.
Robertson's mum, Alison flies in from Melbourne after boarding a flight in Singapore not knowing whether her son had seen off Carter and made it to the final.
The early exchanges failed to live up to the high standards set by these two through their previous matches. Dott got the best of it as Robertson looked strangely out of sorts. He would feel fairly satisfied at trailing by just two frames at 5-3.
In the evening, Robertson looked more like his aggresive attacking self. He dominated the session and won six of the eight frames to lead 9-7 overnight.
Dott looked shattered and failed to make the most of what few mistakes the Aussie made. He said that he failed to get much sleep the previous night following his late night efforts against Selby and the breaking news involving his manager, Pat Mooney and close friend, John Higgins.
Don't be surprised if a rested Dott returns to his best on Monday.
Day Fifteen
Evicted - Allister Carter, Mark Selby
Neil Robertson ended the run of Allister Carter despite a spirited final session effoert from the Essex man.
Carter won three of the first four frames to trail 16-12 at the mid session interval. When they resumed, Robertson clinched frame 29 to seal the win and become the first Australian player since 'Steady' Eddie Charlton in 1975.
In the morning session, Selby rallied early only for the 2006 champion to find a big frame and prevent 'The Jester' levelling. Dott won a crucial final frame of the morning to leade 14-10 instead of 13-11.
In the evening, the overall standard went down but the excitement level didn't. Both players missed opportunities, Selby go to within on frame at 15-14 but couldnt level and Dott clinched fist-pinchingly satisfying win and a place in his third world final.
Day Fourteen
Evicted - None
Liberal Democrat leader, Nick Clegg paid a visit to the house today as part of his pre-election campaign. No doubt, he will be looking to pot reds and blues next Thursday.
When the action on the table resumed it was Robertson and Dott that continued their surge towards a final date on Sunday and Monday.
It is 30 years since Cliff Thorburn took the trophy back to Canada, the only time it has left the shores of Great Britain & Ireland since Joe Davis bought 80-odd years ago.
Grand Prix champion is also looking to extend the patern of a first time winner in the first year of a new decade. He leads Allister Carter by 15-frames-to-9 in their best of 33 frame match.
Graeme Dott is the only player that can stop that pattern being increased. The little Scot will be looking to reach his third Crucible final, a record that has to put him up there with some of the game's 'All Time Greats'
Dott leads Mark Selby 10-6 with two sessions still to go, equalling this year's highest break of 146 in the process.
Day Thirteen
Evicted - None
Day 13 is traditionally the least specatcular. The four players are merely jostling for position in the early stages of their semi final matches.
The semi finals at The Crucible are games of four quarters, with early leads often being wiped out by the end of the third day's play.
Robertson however, took the early initiative against Carter, opening up a 5-0 lead before a relieved Carter salvaged two of the remaining three to to trail by just four after the first day.
Graeme Dott continued on course to deliver Scotland its fourth title in five years by taking a 5-3 lead over Mark Selby.
Selby took the highest break of the day with an impressive 142 in the final frame. The Leicester man will need more of that on Friday and Saturday if he is to get past a determined and increasingly impressive Dott.
It would be remiss of us not to mention the warm-up act, with Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor replaying their final frame deciding frame, 25 years on.
Or at least trying to. Taylor tried to demonstrate the crazy length of the table double that he attempted on the final black, only for it to go straight in this time. He described his first 'real' attempt at potting the black as the "biggest twitch in Crucible history" (Although there are a few contenders!). His attempt to show what he did in 1985, also resulted in the black flying into the green pocket.
Finally, he did pot the black that won him the title and he was able to wave the finger and raise the cue above his head.
Day Twelve
Evicted - Ronnie O'Sullivan, Steve Davis, Shaun Murphy, Mark Allen
Who would have thought on day one that Steve Davis would still be involved in the tournament in any way other than on the sofa with JP?
Certainly not us, but fair play to the once 'Ginger Magician' he played his heart out to get past Mark King and John Higgins. So much so, that there was little left in the tank to use agsinst Neil Robertson.
It was a matter of time before the Aussie eased past Davis to reach the last four for the second year in succession. And with his final record of four wins from four, if he beats Ali in the semi, the title may well be heading down under for the first time!
Carter got to the semi final for the second time in three years at Sheffield with nail biting win over Murphy. Shaun looked set to progress but a twitch on an easy pink in the decider let Carter back in. He took the opportunity and looked a relieved and exhausted man at the end.
Ronnie looked in 'self-destruct' mode most of the day but still managed to carve out an 11-9 lead.
Selby knows exactly which buttons to press to niggle away at O'Sullivan and press them he did, to record a hat-trick of wins in similar style over The Rocket.
Selby looked like a world champion in patches and will be a tough opponent in the last four where he takes on The Underdog, Graeme Dott.
Dott is the quiet man of the tournament, going about his business in a stealth-like manner. Ebdon, Maguire and now Allen have all been 'Dotted' so be careful betting against the little Scot lifting his second world title come Monday night!
Day Eleven
Evicted - None
Nobody was evicted but The Nugget will have his cue case packed, ready to depart on Wednesday. He trailed Neil Robertson by 12-frames-to-two at one stage but salvaged some pride winning the last two of the session to extend the match into a third session.
It will either be the end of an amazing story for the 52-year-old or the most amazing comeback of all time!!!
Neither Mark Allen or Graeme Dott are ready to leave. They are locked in battle at eight frames all. The Northern Irishman won the first session 5-3, but the little Scot went ahead at 8-7, before Allen made the game perfectly poised for session number three on Wednesday.
Shaun Murphy looked in control of his match with Allister Carter but could only manage a 5-3 lead. With two sessions to play on Wednesday, there is a long way to go in this one.
The biggest disappointment in terms of on table action was the much-hyped O'Sullivan v Selby clash. Neither player was at his best, and the four-all scoreline was probably a fair result. Don't expect this to continue on day two.
Ronnie looked his petulant worst throughout the eight frames, and gave the impression he was fighting the urge to leave of his own accord. Tommorow is another day though, and if Ronnie's mood lightens then he may well punish Selby for not holding an advantage after the opening session.
Day Ten
Evicted - Mark Williams, Joe Perry, Stephen Hendry, Ding Junhui
The China Open champ is booted of the BB House by world number one, Ronnie O'Sullivan and according to the BBC commentators he was the only fit for the job.
The Welshman looked almost back to his best and would have been more than a match for any other player. The Rocket, though was in no mood to mess around. He finished in style with three centuries in the last five frames.
He was in also in no mood for talking afterwards and put Rob Walker in his place, telling him, "he didnt know what he was talking about!"
Joe Perry made a Robertson style comeback against Allister Carter. He trailed 10-6 overnight but won the first five of the day to lead 11-10. He couldnt finish the job off though and eventually lost 13-11.
Mark Selby completed his comfortable win over Stephen Hendry and Shaun Murphy battled his way to a hard-fought win against Ding Junhui, finishing with an impressive 128 in frame 23.
Day Nine
Evicted - None
Today is the first day when no player faced the dreaded eveiction from The Crucible.
There was however, some heavy blows dealt on both tables.
The O'Sullivan and Williams continued to live up to its billing as 'Tie of the Round'. The second session was reversal of the opener with the Welshman this time possibly rueing one or two mistakes that might have cost him a lead going into Monday's deciding session.
Elsewhere, Selby looked tentative against seven times champion, Hendry. Possibly unsettled by Higgins' defeat by Davis, the Leicester cueman could only share the opening 8 frames of their match.
Murphy and Ding were below their best, with both players squandering chances. It was the Englishman who made most mistakes and trailed China's number one by five-frames-to-three.
Allister Carter moved to within three frames of the quarter-final, and leads Joe Perry 10-6. Nothing worth writing home about in this one either. All in all, Sunday struggled to live up to Saturday's excitement.
Day Eight
Evicted - John Higgins, Martin Gould, Stephen Maguire
The biggest shock of the world championship since Joe Johnson lifted the famous trophy in 1986.
Steve Davis produced three sessions of solid play and dumped the defending champion out, leaving only Stephen Hendry and himself as the only players ever to successfuly defend the title at the Crucible.
Graeme Dott extended his overnight lead against fellow Scot, Stephen Maguire from 7-1 to 11-1 at the mid-session interval.
On the return, Maguire seemed in a relaxed mood despite the scoreline and was not helped by referee Michaela Tabb who picked the white ball from the bed of the table instead of taking the green from the pocket.
After she had replaced it, he went on to clear the table with 120 break and eventually took the the match into its third session trailing 12-4.
Neil Robertson produces the comeback of the tournament. Martin Gould played great yesterday to open up an 11-5 lead but the Aussie came out all guns blazing and nicked a 13-12 win to set up a Quarter-Final with the Nugget!
The number 3 seed follwed number one out of the house as Crucible specialist, Graeme Dott rounded off a comprehensive win against fellow Scot, Maguire. He will face Mark Allen for a place in the last four.
Day Seven
Evicted - Mark Davis
Mark Davis becomes the first casualty of round two. The winner of the first 6-Red world championship in December was no match for Northern Ireland's, Mark Allen. Arguably the most impressive player in the tournament so far, Allen cruised to a 13-5 victory with a pair of centuries to close out the final session.
In the other matches, it was a bad day for the 'expert' pundits as all the favourites struggled.
Highly fancied Neil Robertson was outplayed with the Englishman needing just two frames to claim a satisfying 'Ashes' win.
2006 champion, Graeme Dott looked back to his best against Stephen Maguire. This all-Scottish battle is far from over with two sessions left to play but its a long way back for the world number two.
And what about the Nugget? Surely Higgins pegged him back in their second session. Well, not quite! Davis held on to a lead by taking the 16th frame and going into the final session on Saturday needing just four frames.
Day Six
Evicted - Stephen Lee, Gerard Greene
Day Six and we finally know the complete line up of Round Two. Number three seed, Stephen Maguire is the sixteenth and final player to make it through the dreaded first round. He beat Stephen Lee in a less one-sided match than the 10-4 scoreline would suggest.
Gerard Greene threatened for an hour or so to cause one of the greatest Crucible comebacks of all time. He trailed 2005 champion, Shaun Murphy 7-2 overnight but rallied in their second session. The Kent-based player got back to 9-7 and had Murphy on the ropes. Class told in the end, though Shaun will be a relieved man to finally get over the line.
The day, or at least the night, belonged to the Nugget. 52-year-old, Steve Davis dominated his opening session against defending champion, John Higgins, including his first century break of the season. The Scot might consider himself lucky to have escaped trailing 6-2. Irrespective of what happens in the next two sessions, the six times champion proved he still has it!!!
Day Five
Evicted - Stuart Pettman, Fergal O'Brien, Peter Ebdon
Peter Ebdon's loss against 2006 champion, Graeme Dott sent him tumbling out of the elite top 16 for the first time since the early 90s.
Australia's Neil Robertson made a relatively comfortable passage through to the second round against Fergal O'Brien and Ding lost just one frame against Preston's Stuart Pettman.
Day Four
Evicted - Jamie Cope, Mark King, Liang Wenbo
Mark King and Steve Davis produced a Crucible Classic in their first orund match today. It was hardly Youth versus Experience, more experience versus experience and it was the former who prevailed in a late night final frame decider.
Davis delivered a Peter Ebdon style reaction to potting the crucial ball to take him past the winning post. Look out John Higgins in round two!
Ronnie O'Sullivan had taken a 7-2 lead against Liang Wenbo overnight but when they returned today, it was the Chinaman who took the lead role. He reduced O'Sullivan to a spectator making a brace of centuries in reducing The Rocket's lead to 9-7, before the 2008 champion finally made it through to face Mark Williams in the last 16.
Day Three
Evicted - Marco Fu, Marcus Campbell, Jamie Cope
Hong Kong's Fu is the first seed to fall in the opening round. England's Martin Gould is turning a bad season into a good one and will now face either Neil Robertson or Fergal O'Brien when Big Breaker thinks his walk-on song should be Spandau Ballet's 'Gould'!
Captain Carter lost the opening two frames against Jamie Cope but three frames in succession took him comfortably past the post and into round two.
China Open winner, Mark Williams, beats Marcus Campbell one-handed! After miss-hitting a postional shot early in the match the Welshman played a safety shot one-handed and left his Scottish opponent tight on the baulk cushion.
A less than spectacular display by Williams ended in a 10-5 win and potentially sets up the match of the round of 16 against Ronnie O'Sullivan.
The Rocket Man was in curious form against the highly rated Liang Wenbo. The three times champion looked at his clinical best at times and completely disinterested at others. After the opening session he leads 7-2.
Nostalgia was at its highest tonight when six times champions, Steve Davis entered the arena to a standing ovation, including Williams and Campbell. The Nugget started conservatively against Mark King but eventually found some form and held on to the number 16 seed trailing 5-4 overnight.
Day Two
Evicted - Tom Ford, Anda Zhang, Michael Holt, Ken Doherty
Tom Ford rallied briefly but the damage was done in the first session. He won the first two and reduced the deficit to just five! It was too little to late though as last year's beaten semi-finalist, Allen swept through by five frames to four.
Martin Gould took a while to settle against Hong Kong's Marco Fu. He did eventually find some form and limited the damage to 5-4 at the end of the first session, they return to settle their match on Day 3.
18-year-old Zhang gave seven times champion, Hendry the fright of his life as he went 9-7 ahead. He missed a chance in amongst the ball in frame 17 but after that the Scot played almost flawless snooker to scrape through to round 2.
Day One
Evicted - Barry Hawkins
The defending champion's big day! It is all about Mr Higgins on Saturday. Many a great champion has come unstuck in round one. He and Barry Hawkins are the first to face eviction in 2010.
Allen, Perry and Selby also start today and a welcome return for '97 champ, Doherty.
Watch out for 'Mighty Mouse', Chinese sensation Anda Zhang making his debut against the seven time champion, Hendry.
Higgins dodges a bullet in the first session. If Hawkins had not missed a simple red to the centre in frame five, who knows what would have happened. If you let a great player off the hook though, you will pay heavily and Higgins looked a class act in the night winning six out of seven to reach the last 16.
We told you about Zhang. Hendry started wel, but now the little fella has sttled, don't be surprised if he causes the first 'upset' tomorrow.
Selby looked good against Ken. A brace of centuries helped him to a 6-3 overnight lead.
Mark Allen was relentless against Tome Ford, punishing the debutant's every mistake. Ford broke his duc with a 107 break in frame eight but trails 8-1.
Joe Perry is also in control in his opener against Michael Holt.
