The Golden Globals 2009
As the 2009 Golden Globes have been presented and the Oscars Award ceremony approaches, Global Snooker takes a fun look at what might happen if snooker met Hollywood and presents our very own Golden Global Awards. Check out the fun ceremony...
Best Player in a leading role...Neil Robertson beat O'Sulivan to this title thanks in part to his return to winning ways in Bahrain. It was mainly due though, to having a major Hollywood blockbuster named after his home country and Ronnie didn't!
Best animated match...Mark King and Marco Fu. The stuff of legends, the hard hitting Englishman taking on Hong Kong's finest. It took the creators months to complete, as someone on the crew kept swapping the names around!
Best actor in a supporting role...Graeme has played little more than a 'bit part' in the past season and a half. A series of problems away from the table, rounded off by breaking a bone having a kick-about with the rest of the players in Shanghai have affected his performance on screen in the ranking events. A decent show at the Masters, despite losing to Maguire, indicate that 2009 may see a more dramatic performance from the Scot.
Best screen play...hot on the heels of O'Sullivan as snooker's Mr Big, Selby's performance on screen over the past year has received critical aclaim. Certain to land more leading roles in major events, coupled with the Selby smile, he could be snooker box office for years to come!
And the lifetime achievement award...Big Will Thorne. What can you say about the man, that he hasn't already said? From the snooker table to the commentary box to the dance floor - the man is legendary - we salute you Mr.T!
