Youngsters on Course
Jack Lisowski and Liam Highfield successfully navigated through round one of snooker’s exciting new World Open at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
The World Open is the direct replacement of the Grand Prix which was first staged in 1984 and won by Dennis Taylor at Reading’s Hexagon Theatre.

Lisowski and Highfield, ranked number one and two respectively on last season’s PIOS rankings are two of the sport’s great young hopes.
Gloucester’s Lisowski eased past Ryan Causton, a qualifier from Romford’s Grove Snooker Club by three-frames-to-one.
Meanwhile there was a hint of ‘needle’ between Highfield and Welsh starlet, Michael White. Could this be the start of a long rivalry between the two?
Highfield, from Stoke came out on top of this sprint, also winning 3-1.
Elsewhere, six times women’s world champion, continued her turbulent start to life in the’big’ league losing 3-1 against Thailand’s Thepchaiya Un Nooh.
Two other women take up the challenge on day two as Belgium’s Wendy Jans takes on Leeds’ professional, Simon Bedford and Norwegian, Anita Rizutti faces IBSF world champion, Alfie Burden.
The final stages of the World Open take place at the SECC in Glasgow in September.
