• Williams & The Lucky Pig

Mark Williams’ recent return to form at the Masters has been put down to all sorts of reasons by all sorts of people but Global-Snooker.com has discovered the real truth.

If you listen to the commentators it is because he has knuckled down and started practicing again.  Others have said that the car crash earlier this week has made him see things from a different perspective.

You might even be fooled into thinking that the once former world champion had been working on his game with some new coach.

Well in fact, we have it on good authority that his work ethic and time spent at the practice table has never really changed since he started to take the game seriously as a 12-year-old.

We also have it on good authority that his outlook remains unchanged as a result of the crash and that he is not working closely with any coach at the moment.

What has been the difference then? You may ask.

It is all down to a pig.

Yes, that’s right a pig.  A silver pig that is about 2cm long that is pinned to his waistcoat.

It is a ‘lucky-charm’ that was given to him by Alex ‘Hurricane’ Higgins after he had beaten the legend five-frames-to-two in the 1992 Dubai Duty Free Classic.

Williams told Global-snooker.com, “I played Alex in my first season, and managed to beat him.  After the game he came up to me and put something in my hand and told me to look after it and it would look after me.

“I have treasured it and kept it safe ever since, but I decided to start wearing it on my waistcoat again, like I did in the early days and it seems to be working.”
