• Murphy On Course For Celtic Manor

World number three, Shaun Murphy, will play in the first Global Snooker Charity Golf Challenge at the Celtic Manor Resort in Wales later this year.

Murphy, the 2005 world champion confirmed his attendance during a practice round on the Twenty Ten course.

“I am delighted to have been asked to play in this event, at such a great venue and in support of The Paul Hunter Foundation and Tenovus.

“To be able to play the course just ahead of it hosting the Ryder Cup is great and when I watch the event on TV, I will know where the players are and what they are facing”.

Anyone playing on Murphy’s team in the event won’t be disappointed.  He plays off a handicap of six and during yesterday’s round, went through the back of the 545 yard par five eighteenth with a driver and eight-iron.

Two-time world champion, Mark Williams MBE will host the event in his native Wales, at the five-star resort.

He said. “Shaun is one of the leading players on the circuit and arguably one of the best golfers.  I say arguably, because John Parrott might argue”.

The on course action at the Celtic Manor will be followed by a celebration of snooker at the first Global Snooker Awards which will recognise the efforts and achievements of players and officials in events covered by global-snooker.com over the past twelve months.

After lifting the UK title in December and reaching the final of the world championship in May, Murphy himself is shortlisted for two awards including Player of the Year.
