• Getting The Boys Off The Baize

Global-snooker.com has announced that Rob Walker will host its Global Snooker Awards at the Celtic Manor Resort on October 13.

Rob is an experienced presenter, reporter, and commentator and is MC on all BBC snooker events.

He has become synonymous with the catchphrase, “Let’s get the boys on the baize”, since using it as part of his introductions at The Crucible last year.

The Global Snooker Awards will be more a case of getting the boys off the baize as the snooker industry rewards its high achievers over the past twelve months.

Walker said, “It will be a top night.  Snooker is serious stuff at all levels, so this is a great opportunity for players to bring their wives to a social event at a stunning venue. I am sure it will be a great laugh to share a more relaxed environment with some of the characters from the snooker world”.

In addition to being snooker’s front-man, Walker has worked with the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and the IAAF, covering a variety of major sporting events such as the Football World Cup, and the World Athletics Championships.

Walker’s on the water coverage of the sailing at the Beijing Olympics was one of his career highlights to date, and BBC viewers will no doubt remember his boat-to-boat interview with Ben Ainslie after the Brit had won gold.

As well as reporting and presenting, Rob lectures at British universities and overseas events, has made a number of documentaries, and also runs his own charitable cause which takes six British teenagers on a life-changing experience once a year.

Global-snooker.com’s, Neil Tomkins, said, “We are delighted Rob has agreed to host the Awards.  His enthusiasm and energy contribute to a distinctive and charismatic style that I am sure will be appreciated by our audience on the night”.
