Maguire Shoulders Injury
World number two and one of the pre-tournament favourites, Stephen Maguire has withdrawn from the Roewe Shanghai Masters with a shoulder injury.
The Scot was due to face England's Barry Hawkins at the Grand Stage tonight.
The injury was sustained after Maguire slipped in the shower at home in Glasgow last week.
He made the journey to China thinking he would be fit enough to take part in the season's opening world ranking event.
He has received treatment from the Chinese football team's doctor and even tried acupuncture, in an attempt to relieve the pain. The decision was taken this morning to pull out earlier today after suffering sever pain when attempting to practise. Barry
Hawkins will receive a walk-over into the last 16 stage where he will face Ireland's Ken Doherty.
"I am really gutted at having travelled all this way just to go back home without hitting a ball," said the 2008 China Open champion. "I honestly thought it was nothing serious - but it's obviously more serious than I first thought.
"The injury has been diagnosed as internal bleeding in a muscle. And it's just too painful to play."
