Maguire Beats Day in Friendly Battle
Scotland's Stephen Maguire eased past Welshman Ryan Day by six-frames-to-one to book his place in the last four at Wembley.
It was a below par performance by both men especially considering the high standard set by O'Sullivan and Williams, less than 24 hours earlier.
The high points for Maguire were breaks of 50,55, 62 and 61 in the last. Most of these came from chances spurned by Day, who despite beating Joe Perry 6-0 in the first round has struggled to produce his best at this famous tournament.
It is never easy to play someone on the table that you are good friends with off the table, and this seemed to be the case as both players lacked some of the killer instinct that was more obvious in their previous match.
Maguire will have to wait to see who wins the battle of the Mark's, as Selby takes on Allen in tonights last quarter-final, before knowing who he will face for a place in his first Wembley final.
Selby's record in London since 2008 is played nine and won eight so he will fancy his chances against Northen Ireland's number one. But the left-hander fresh from his defeat of world champion, John Higgins on Tuesday will relish the opportunity to avenge his 6-5 defeat at this stage last year.
Frame scores:
72(50)-25, 20-65(37), 83(55)-37, 67-66,98-26 62-53 (62) 76-46 (61)
