King Rules in ONEFORSEVEN
Mark King added his name to the list of players’ competing for the first ever ONEFORSEVEN Wales title by winning a Satellite event in Essex.
World number sixteen scored an impressive total of 582 points to claim a comfortable victory over Mark Joyce and Allister Carter.
World number five, Carter looked a certainty to qualify after opening up a 133 point lead after four of the seven rounds.
However defeats in rounds five and six by Stuart Bingham and Alex Davies meant that King closed the gap to just seven points with one round to go.
Carter faced Walsall’s, Mark Joyce whilst King took on Stoke based 18-year-old starlet, Liam Highfield on adjacent tables.
Carter was in first but a missed simple red allowed Joyce in. King meanwhile had created his chance and quickly made a break of 90.
That was enough to secure victory as Joyce completed three defeats in a row for the Welsh Open Champion, relegating him to third place overall in the process.
Earlier in the day, King had signalled his intent with a century break in the opening frame of his qualifying group.
Lee ‘The Shirt’ Richardson made his presence felt with wins over Bingham and Joyce in the final group and against King in qualifying.
King joins Ben Woollaston and Dave Harold as qualifiers for the ONEFORSEVEN WALES event in Cardiff on December 21.
The field at the Welsh Institute of Sport includes world champions John Higgins, Mark Williams, Ken Doherty and Graeme Dott as well as Jungle resident, Jimmy White.
