• Betfred are Odds On Favourites

Betfred, a leading betting company, have been officially named as the new sponsors for the World Snooker Championship, in a four year deal, announced by Sir Rodney Walker at the RAC Club, London.

The World Professional Snooker Championship will be retitled the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship.

Betfred are no strangers to involvement in snooker. Previously they have been title sponsors of the Premier League Snooker and also logo sponsors of several leading players including Mark Williams, Stephen Maguire and Marco Fu.

Betfred boss Fred Done was delighted to have acquired the World Championship saying "It's always been an ambition of mine to sponsor a World Championship and this is an event with so much history.

When it comes to snooker, this is the pinnacle of the sport and I look forward to watching the world's best 32 players in action."

Done, boss of the Manchester based betting giants, also quipped "We can afford to sponsor the event after all the money we won on the Grand National!". The bookies made a killing last week at Aintree when a 100/1 outsider romped to victory.

Betfred established in 1967 have more than 750 betting shops right across the UK, but they maintain a close relationship with their home town, Manchester. They are the exclusive online partners with Manchester United.

The players were equally delighted with the news. Stephen Hendry, who had previous logo partnerships with Betfred said "I'm delighted that we've found a new sponsor for the World Championship.

"I've known the people at Betfred for several years and I know snooker will be able to build a great relationship with them.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, the defending champion, was equally effusive, having been a winner of the Betfred Premier League in the past.

“Betfred’s events feel like events, where some of the other tournaments lack that enthusiasm and dynamism and personality. It will be a pleasure to be there.”
