• Haneveer Holds European Hopes

Bjorn Haneveer beat seven-times world champion, Stephen Hendry and world number 24, Michael Holt to reach the last 16 of the first ever European Players Tour Championship in Germany.

The Belgian is the last player from continental Europe still in the competition and will now take on England’s Anthony Hamilton for a place in the quarter-final of the event which was previously known as the Paul Hunter Classic.

The former European champion, beat Hendry by four-frames-to-two before edging past Holt in a final frame decider.

Elsewhere, current world champion, Neil Robertson was whitewashed by Stuart Bingham, in the last 32.

Bingham is one of a group of players who has yet to deliver on the biggest stage.  A consistent qualifier but has sat in the mid-twenties in the world rankings for a number of seasons.

The new PTC series of events could provide the pefect platform for the former IBSF world champion from Essex to take his career to the next level.
Another player who would fall into that category is Mark Davis.

37-year-old Davis will take on his namesake, Steve in the last 16 on Sunday after disposing of Welsh duo, Matthew Stevens and Jamie Jones.

After winning the world six-reds championship in Ireland last year, he has reached the final stages of the first two major ranking events of the new season and is currently in the top ten on the PTC Order of Merit.

Defending champion, Shaun Murphy is lurking in the draw and will face Andrew Higginson on Sunday.

The 2005 world champion looked solid, dropping just one frame against tough opponents in Barry Hawkins and Joe Perry.
