Snooker in Malta
Malta is probably Europe's longest established snooker country, with its Association founded in 1935.
It has a rich pedigree in both billiards and snooker with national championships under the current Association, stretching back to 1947.
The name of Tony Drago is known across the world to audiences of the major professional events, but equally well known are other great champions from the country, including Paul Mifsud, who won both the IBSF Billiards and Snooker titles, Joe Grech, and Alex Borg, to name just a few.
And it's not just on the table that Malta excels. They're renowned for the staging of the successful Malta Grand Prix and other World Professional Ranking and Invitation events.
They've played host to IBSF and EBSA events and in 2005 hosted the Malta Cup, the Mediterranean Cup, the European Team Championship, an event in which the Maltese successfully defended their title. defending Champions, and the IBSF World Billiards Championship.
Malta play host again in 2010 to the European Team Championship, The European Under 19 Championship, The EBSA Sangsom 6 Reds qualifying event and an EBOS Billiards Open.
