Wenbo Bags first Professional title in the BTV Beijing Challenge
Liang Wenbo delighted the enthusiastic Chinese fans, recovering from 6-4 behind to edge a 7-6 victory over Stephen Maguire.
Wenbo claimed his first professional title on home ground in Beijing, winning the deciding frame over Maguire to claim the BTV Beijing Challenge.
The first eight frames were shared, with never more than a frame between them. But then Maguire cut loose to go 6-4 ahead and it looked very much as if Chinese hopes would be dashed.
Not a bit of it, Wenbo, played at a more measured pace than we've seen previously, battled back into the match and having drawn level, he then went on to hold his nerve and clinch the final frame.
Wenbo earned a £50,000 pay day for his week's work, while Maguire took £25,000 as runner up.
Wenbo and Maguire had been the form players all week.
Wenbo beat both Stephen Hendry and Allister Carter in the group stage, knocking in the week's best break of 138.
Although he slipped to defeat against Jin Long, it didn't matter and he went through to face Mark Allen in the semi final.
It was pretty much one way traffic in the semi final as Wenbo knocked in 73, 57 and 58 on his way to a 5-1 win.
Maguire, likewise, cantered through the group stage, beating Marco Fu, Mark Allen and Tian Pengfei, and he made 103 along the way.
Maguire faced up to fellow Scot Stephen Hendry in his semi final and came through a hard fought match a 5-3 winner.
