• Norman Storms to Victory

Andrew Norman shrugged off the disappointment of losing his Main Tour place, winning the first Pontin's Pro Am event of the new season.

Bristol's Andrew Norman beat rising junior star Mitchell Mann 5-2 in the final, to take the £800 first prize and 1500 ranking points.

Victory should already guarantee Norman a place in the Grand Finals weekend, where the top 48 players will compete for the £5,000 first prize.

Norman cruised through the early rounds, overcoming James Lawless, Phil Parkin and Ryan Causton without due cause.

He added a 5-1 quarter final win over former professional Avtar Sohanpal, but the semi final proved to be a huge hurdle to cross.

In a match of the very highest quality Norman was pitted against Liverpool's Robbie Williams. Williams ran in a break of 73, Norman responded with 76, 92 and a superb 140 total clearance, and eventually ran out a 5-4 winner.

Williams beat Lee Farebrother, before taking out former Top 8 professional Mike Hallett in the Last 16, after Hallet had beaten local favourite, Gareth Allen five-frames-to-two.

He got a walkover in the quarter finals as his opponent withdrew.

Birmingham's Mitchell Mann had a smooth run through, his hardest test coming from Welsh Junior International Jak Jones in the quarter finals. Mann took that match 5-2 before beating Nick Jennings by the same margin in the semi finals.

Entries are still open for this season's Pro Am Series. Interested players should contact Pontin's at Prestatyn direct to enter. Telephone 01744 881 800.
