• Selby completes Wembley Hat Trick

Mark Selby beat Stephen Maguire 6-3 to book his place in his third successive Masters Final

The match never really kicked off in the first three frames. Selby had a best effort of 46, while Maguire had only built a break of 38 and elby led 2-1.

But it all changed in the fourth.

Selby missed a long red and Maguire stepped up to the table and compiled a scintillating 140 total clearance, which put him alongside Neil Robertson at the top of the Century chart, in line to share the £10,000 high break prize.

Selby responded after the interval with 84 to take the lead.

A run of 99 brought Maguire level again. At that point no one would have suspected that this would be Maguire's last meaningful contribution in the match.

The Scot missed a red early in the seventh and Selby punished him to the tune of a 91 break.

In the eighth it was Maguire's safety that deserted him. He hit a red far too thick, and let Selby in. He only made 21 at that visit but Maguire missed a red after Selby had played a brilliant safety and that opened up the table for Selby to make 51 to go two up.

Putting all his eggs in one basket Maguire attempted a long red and Selby profited with a 38 break. The Scot's last shot proved to be another poor safety and Selby mopped up enough points to put him into the final.

So for the second year running Selby will face Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final. Last year's results was 10-8 in O'Sullivan's favour. Amazingly that is the only match Selby has ever lost at Wembley.
