• Ronnie takes a Crucible Break

More used to making breaks than taking them, the defending World Champion is determined to get some quality time to help him through the Sheffield marathon.

Ronnie O'Sullivan eased through his first round match, beating his practice partner Stuart Bingham 10-5 and then declared he needed to take a break away from the Crucible pressure-cooker in order to keep himself sharp for his next match.

"It's seventeen days, it's too long, that's as long as the whole of the Olympics", bemoaned O'Sullivan.

"If I stayed here the whole seventeen days I'd go demented."

If the Rocket can keep mind and body in tip-top condition he could become the first man for 13 years to retain the title.

O'Sullivan will be back on the table on Thursday to start his second round match, where he'll play the winner of the match between Mark Allen and Martin Gould.

But in the mean time he's "out of here"!

"I may go home or might just go and stay at my friend's house, just to break it up a bit."

The three times champion fired a warning out to his rivals in only the second frame of his match against Bingham. A superlative 140 total clearance has set a benchmark for others to try and beat.
