• Clark wins Welsh Junior Pot black title

Jamie Clark from Llanelli won the Welsh version of Junior Pot Black on the television table at the Newport Centre

The four leading players from the Welsh Association's Under 16 age group were selected to battle it out on the tight tournament table under the tv lights at the Newport Centre.

It was a great experience for the four lads, Jamie Clark, from Llanelli, Dale Hughes, Port Talbot, Thomas Rees from Swansea and local lad from Newport Callum Lloyd

They were given the big build up and intro by MC Rob Walker and the BBC Wales cameras filmed every shot.

Not surprisingly the talented youngsters found the super fast match table a little difficult to adjust to and sizeable breaks were hard to come by.

Tom Rees won his semi final against Callum Lloyd in a frame dominated by safety play.

The frame score was 83 to 46 in Rees' favour and remarkably there were 52 points awarded in fouls, 44 earned by Rees.

Jamie Clark, who plays his snooker at the Terry Griffiths Matchroom in Llanelli made the best break of the day, 28, in his semi final against Dale Hughes and that helped him to win the match 64-12.

The final was very low scoring as both both struggled to control the white to get a break going.

It came down to the colours and Clarke, the former Pontin's Junior Champion, took a good long blue and long pink to secure victory.

The presentations were made by the ebulliant Dominic Dale, who presented the Welsh Slate trophy, remarking that there might be "a leaky roof in Newport somewhere!"
