Bond takes top Pontins honours
Nigel Bond won the 2010 Pontin's Spring Open beating Stephen Craigie in the final
Two years ago Nigel Bond was the beaten finalist in the Pontin's Spring Open, but this time he went one better, claiming his first Pontin's Open title with a 5-2 win over Stephen Craigie in the final.
Craigie had claimed family bragging rights in the semi final by beating his younger brother Sam 4-0, while Bond beat Daniel Wells 4-1.
After the first four frames were shared Bond took control of the match. He snatched the lead on the colours and then ran in breaks of 86 and 62 to complete victory and take home the £4,000 winner's cheque.
David Grace, who beat Bond in the 2007 Open final, had to settle for runners-up spot in an enthralling Twenty-40 final.
Pitted against last year's winner Sean Bullock, Grace rattled in breaks of 70 and a 93 clearance, but he faltered on 45 in the decider and left the table with Bullock needing one snooker on the colours.
Eventually Bullock got the snooker he needed on the blue, and cleared blue to black for a final ball victory.
Kettering's Kyren Wilson, who joins the professional ranks next season, bowed out of amateur snooker in great style. He beat fellow Main Tour debutant Anthony McGill 3-0 in a blitz of scoring.
Having won the opening frame 76-0 in a couple of visits, Wilson blasted in 91 in the second and rattled in 108 to complete a dominant performance. McGill potted just two balls in the match.
At the other end of the age scale the pace was slightly more pedestrian. Colin Norton and Mark Rowing, who were the 2009 English Masters finalists, ground each other into the dust until Norton eventually sank blue to black for a 3-2 victory.
Jordan Rimmer won the Under 16 title, beating Declan Bristow 3-1, helped by breaks of 53 and 47.
The Super 60s was won by Mick Faulkner and the Plate title went to Craig Steadman, who beat Leigh Robinson in the final.
