• Hitman Holt Tickled Pink

Michael Holt produced a blistering display of scoring to win the inaugural Pink Pro Am at the South West Academy in Gloucester

The Hitman lifted the first big trophy of the season and a cheque for £2,400, winniing the Pink Pro Am at the newly opened Academy.

Facing Jimmy White in the final Holt won the opener with a run of 41, but White responded with 56 to square the scores.

Holt then turned on the style with 114 and a 127 total clearance to open a 4-1 lead.

White responded to take four of the next five frames to force the decider. White made 55, 61 and 65 to come back to 5-4 down.

Holt made 14 but rattled a red in the next and White stepped in with a vintage 110 clearance.

White caused the biggest laugh of the week when the referee called the score at 69. White cheekily turned to the audience and said "it's been a while".

When the laughter subsided he proceeded to clear the table with some Jimmy White specials on the colours.

But it was Holt who took his life in his hands in the decider.

Left with an improbable long red from White's break Holt slammed it into the top pocket and then slammed in the blue and scattered the reds all over the table.

The title was then in his hands and he held his nerve to compile a flawless 129 total clearance.

Paul Mount, who ploughed £2 million into building the brand new state of the art facility, made the presentations and also announced that the event had raised £6,300 for Breast Cancer Charities.
