• Rocket leaves Wenbo on the launchpad

An efficient day's work combined with a lacklustre display by Wenbo gave Ronnie O'Sullivan a 7-2 overnight lead at the Crucible.

O'Sullivan rattled in back to back centuries and breaks of 54, 86 and 56 as he raced away from 1-1 to 7-2.

The match had been eagerly anticipated as a feast of fast-paced snooker, but that proved not to be the case.

The players scrapped out the opening two frames which lasted 41 minutes, before O'Sullivan set the crowd cheering with a 100 clearance, followed by 108 in double-quick time.

Wenbo won the next, but in less than convincing style and he seemed incapable of finding the sort of form that saw him through to the final of the Shanghai Masters against O'Sullivan at the start of the season.

O'Sullivan will return to try and win the three frames he needs to advance to round two, on Tuesday afternoon.

The other side of the partition, Allister Carter wrapped up a satisfactory 10-4 win over Jamie Cope.

Neither player produced a century in the match. Carter's best run was 83 and Cope's 84.

Those breaks came in consecutive frames as Cope won the first two of the day, before Carter won the next two to progress.

Carter now faces Joe Perry, who is looking for a bit of revenge after losing to Carter in the semi finals a couple of years ago.

Both Mark Williams and Marcus Campbell seemed to be suffering the Monday morning blues as their match got underway.

Neither player could find any fluent form, but Williams ground out a 5-4 lead, finishing the session with a 56 break.

Marcus Campbell did win 'best catch of the day' award.

He arrived at the far end of the table to realise he'd left his chalk at his chair. Williams obligingly lobbed the chalk across the arena for a nifty one handed catch by Campbell.

Williams and Campbell resume at 7pm Monday, and that is the time that six times Champion Steve Davis will step out into the Crucible arena for a record 30th appearance. His opponent Mark King will be hoping to quickly dispel any thoughts of Davis revisiting his glory days.
