• Snooker strikes Gold for Team GB

Nigel Bond won the 2009 World Games Gold Medal in Taiwan, beating team mate David Grace in the final.

At 43 years old Nigel Bond will be one of the older players to have lifted Gold for Great Britain.

The former World finalist had a tame 3-0 win over David Grace in the final, but had to battle all the way to reach the Gold Medal Match.

Having had a routine win over New Zealand's Dene O'Kane in the Last 16, Bond came up against IBSF World Champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in the quarters.

After a very close match he eventually edged out the Thai on the colours in the decider.

And the semi final also went the distance before Bond overcame stout reistance by Mohammed Shehab, from UAE.

Shehab was philosophical afterwards. "I have to be content with a Bronze Medal. I've done well because there were so many good players here, including the World Snooker Professionals."

Bond's Gold lifted Team GB's Gold tally to four. Former World Ladies Snooker champion Allison Fisher also won Gold, in the Women's 9-ball pool edging out Austria's Jasmin Ouschan 9-8.

The three cue sports medals left GB sitting at tenth in the medal table. The other British Gold Medals came in Squash and Canoe Polo.
