Match Notes: Fourth Session: Frame 27. It's all over now by the cheers and John Higgins raises the World Trophy for the third time. He finished the Championship in style with 73 before his family joined him in the arena for the presentations. Frame 26. A brave last gasp by Murphy, who makes 59 and prolongs the match a little longer. Frame 25. Murphy has missed his attempt at a long red and left John plumb in the balls. Wouldn't surprise me to see John try for a 147 here. He's onto 41 now and has opened the reds a bit and is still on the black. Well he tried to double a red to stay on the black and failed, so just 48 on the board. Murphy missed the black on 21 and that gifts the frame to Higgins. Just one more needed. 8pm BST. Good evening and welcome to the very last session of this year's World Snooker Championship. There is an air of excitement and expectation all round the Crucible. The audience is buzzing in the foyer and bars and the media centre is packed to overflowing with the world's journalists and photographers. We're all set now to bring you the final culmination of this year's superb championship. Third Session: Frame 24. Just two more frames needed tonight for John Higgins to win his third World title. He missed a red on 52 and gave Murphy a good opening. Murphy did all the hard work but missed the yellow. He then twice failed to escape from a snooker on the yellow leaving Higgins to clear the colours. Frame 23. Higgins makes 61 and that's enough to stretch his lead to 15-8 with one more to play this afternoon. Frame 22. A brilliant run of 79 by Murphy after Higgins ran out of position on 45. Frame 21. John Higgins ran out of position and from tight under the baulk Cushion Murphy crashed home a red and made 47 from it to pull a frame back. Frame 20. There seems to be something about pinks to the centre for Higgins. He's missed another one, but Murphy has missed the last red and left it on for John to clear up. 14-6 at the interval. Frame 19. With the scores level on the blue and the pink balanced in the jaws, John Higgins slotted a great long blue but then snookered himself on the pink, but he managed to come off one cushion and clip the pink in and extends his lead now to 13-6. Frame 18. Shaun Murphy has snaffled up the first chance and produce a confidence-boosting 91 break. Frame 17. The yellow was twice the undoing of Shaun Murphy in that frame. He missed a sitter to let Higgins in for 32. But a missed pink by Higgins gave Murphy another chance. He did all the hard work, including a brilliant last red and he got position on the yellow on the baulk cushion and then missed it. Good afternoon everyone. This afternoon's play will start soon, when all the introductions have been completed. Will we see a Shaun Murphy revival or can John Higgins keep his superb form of yesterday and run out a quick winner? Second Session: Frame 16. John Higgins wraps up six frames on the spin, with another fabulous century break. What a performance tonight by the Scot. Frame 15. Higgins got in off a safety error by Murphy and made 50. And immediately he's got another chance to close out the frame. Frame 14. There's another frame in the bag for Higgins and he knows now that he's secured an overnight lead of at worst 9-7. A really good solid frame-winning century here after Murphy went in off. Frame 13. Fifteen minutes gone already in this frame. Higgins has a 42-1 lead, he made 20 but lost position, and now's he's snookered behind the green. Eventually Higgins potted a good penultimate red and cleared to the blue to open a 3 frame lead. Frame 12. An early missed red by Murphy gave Higgins the chance to slot home a long red and from that he's made his highest break of the match, 95, so he's got a two frame lead at the interval. Frame 11. John Higgins wins a frame he should have lost. But having said that they both had chances and both made errors. Murphy missed the black on 22, after wich Higgins missed a red on 34 but he won the tactical exchange and got in to take the last couple of reds and clear to the pink. Frame 10. Murphy levels the scores. He got in first with 31 before losing position. John potted a superb long red but went in off and left Murphy the chance to make 52 and take the frame. Frame 9. A bright start for Higgins to the evening's play. runs of 57 and 37 give him a comfortable frame success. |
