     Notes:

Frame 9. Mark Williams has turned this match on its head. From 4-1 down he's won the next four to take a slender one frame lead at the end of a very entertaining first session.

Frame 8. We're all square as Williams completes his recovery with 66. But it could have gone wrong for the Welshman, he left a red on but Hendry failed to capitalise on his counter-attack.

Frame 7. Williams is right back in this now. A speculative long red to the green bag by Hendry didn't drop and he left it on for Williams to close out the frame with 38.

Frame 6. Williams pulls a frame back with a run of 57 which put the frame beyond Hendry's reach with three reds left.

Frame 5. Hendry moves further ahead, a mid-frame fluked red helped him through this frame. This is deadly serious between these two great off-table friends. There's no banter today as they sit side by side in their chairs.

Frame 4. This isn't going to be a safety dominated match and it's Hendry who gets in to make 61 and open a 3-1 lead.

Frame 3. Williams gets in on the act with a quick fire 75. It looks like in we're in for a real treat in this match.

Frame 2. Hendry looks in ominously good form already. He's dominated the second with a mid frame 46.

Frame 1. Stephen Hendry is straight into the groove with a nice run of 72 to take the opener.

    Notes:

Frame 17. It's all over for Williams. Hendry missed a red on 33, but Williams missed the most important red on 31 and Hendry cleared to pink for victory.

Frame 16. A missed red by Hendry on 53 gave Williams a chance to counter, but he missed on 40 and now the seven times champion stands within a frame of victory.

Frame 15. The momentum is with Hendry at the moment. Williams had a few chances that frame but couldn't do much with any of them and the Scot will pounce on any weakness.

Frame 14. This is developing into a Crucible Classic. Whatever one player throws at the other, is being immediatley returned with interest. An immaculate 83 clearance from Hendry levels the match.

Frame 13. Hendry has produced a trademark clearance to the black to steal the frame from Williams and what a big swing that oculd be, only 7-6 behind instead of 8-5.

Frame 12. Williams pounced when Hendry missed a black, and 42 was enough to clinch the frame. Now there will be an interval as Williams has asked to change his tip, a request which his opponent happily agreed to.

Frame 11. Hendry bounces back in style with a class 65 and keeps Williams penned in his chair.

Frame 10. Wow what an important frame that might turn out to be. after some amusement at the start when Mark Williams left his cue extension on the table and the white missed it by a whisker; Hendry got in made 51 but ran out of position and missed the green. The Welshman gratefully cleared up to win on the black.
