• New Day dawns at Wembley

Ryan Day broke his Pokerstars.com Masters duck with a thumping 6-0 defeat of Joe Perry

Both Ryan Day and Joe Perry were looking to reach the Pokerstars.com Masters Quarter Finals for the first time. Perry agonisingly missed match ball pink against O'Sullivan last year.

Perry will have to wait another year as he endured a nightmare evening against Ryan Day in which everything that could go wrong did go wrong. It was largely of his own making as an error crept into his cueing and he consistently missed balls to the left of the pocket all evening. Safety shots also went astray and Day feasted on Perry's errors.

The Welshman thumped in runs of 52, 67, 66 and 53 to saunter off to the interval 4-0 ahead.

An interval can often turn a match on its head, but not this one. Perry potted a good red in the fifth but scored only 6 points and Day capitalised with 48 before playing safe.

Another error by Perry enabled Day to accumulated enough points to go 5 frames up.

By far it was now too late but Day missed a tricky red to centre in the sixth and Perry constructed 45. But he left Day a chance and the Welshman cleared up for an easy victory.

Day's victory earns him a match against Stephen Maguire in the Quarter Finals on Friday.

The quarter finals get under way on Thursday at 1.30pm when Ronnie O'Sullivan meets 'The Force', Peter Ebdon.
