• Carter and Swail set for Welsh rematch

Defending champion Allister Carter and beaten finalist Joe Swail are seeded to meet in the Last 32 of the 2010 Welsh Open.

Such are the vagaries of the draws that one year's final can become the next year's first round match.

First Joe Swail will have to beat Mark Davis, or one of Lee Page, David Hogan or Andy Hicks to take his place in the final stages at the Newport Leisure Centre in January 2010.

The home Welsh favourites Ryan Day, and Mark Williams await the results of the qualifying rounds to know who they face. Day could face Gerard Greene, but Tony Drago starts out in round one of Day's section of the draw and that would be a match up to bring the fans flooding into Newport.

Mark Williams, will face Fergal O'Brien if the Irish player safely negotiates one qualifying round. Way back in Round One Newport's own Ian Preece will be doing his best to battle through to set up an all-Welsh clash against Williams.

Matthew Stevens, starting in the Last 48, has his match held over to the venue and will face a tough opener against a choice of Martin Gould, Barry Pinches, Patrick Wallace or Brendan O'Donoghue.

And if he survives he faces Shaun Murphy in the first round proper.

World champion John Higgins could face Liang Wenbo in a mouth-watering tie, but there's another Welshman, Paul Davies who'll be trying to upset the seedings to reach his home venue.
